My name is Annette and I've chosen to study the Smithsonian edx course about Star Trek: Inspiring Culture and Technology partly because I enjoyed the previous course I did with them (The Rise of Superheroes and their Impact on Pop Culture) and partly that I thought another course based on something else I enjoy could be both fun and a way of improving my knowledge in several areas.

I have watched Star Trek off and on most of my life.  I am not a rabid trekkie, I just enjoy the show as I enjoy many others.  There are themes within Star Trek that hold a way forward to live a life of meaning, compassion and exploration.
